LCPQ 4040 MK2

4-Band All-Discrete Inductor EQ

4-Band Inductor EQ

Overview

The LCPQ 4040 MK2 is a 4-Band inductor-based equalizer that combines the characteristics of a high-performance discrete (transistor) circuitry with the musicality that passive RLC filters are known for.

Each unit is hand-built and all the components are chosen and tested thoroughly for best performance, musicality and long-term reliability.

The LCPQ 4040 MK2 builds upon the strengths of the original LCPQ 4040, introducing a range of thoughtful updates and enhancements, while maintaining the signature sound and musicality of the original design.

The MK2 version incorporates new features and greater versatility, making it an even more powerful tool for audio professionals and enthusiasts.

What’s new

Custom-made Detent Potentiometers

The Level control now features 31 distinct detents, offering 15 steps for the gain (+) range and 15 steps for the attenuation (-) range, allowing for precise control and easy recallability.

Selectable Level Range

Users have the option to choose between ±6dB or ±12dB via jumpers, offering flexibility in different mixing or mastering needs.

Per-Band Level Adjustment

Each band can be set individually, allowing combinations like setting BAND 1&4 to ±6dB and BAND 2&3 to ±12dB for greater tonal flexibility.

Dual function of “Hi-Q” Button

The “Hi-Q” button can also be used to seamlessly switch between ±6dB and ±12dBHowever, this is optional and you can choose to maintain the same level range for both Low-Q and High-Q if preferred.

New Enclosure

The LCPQ 4040 MK2  now comes with a newly designed enclosure and front panel, enhancing durability, recallability and ensuring reliable performance in any environment.

New Circuit Boards

The PCBs have been redesigned to further enhance modularity, serviceability, and performance.

Description

The LCPQ 4040 MK2 offers a total of thirty-four selectable frequency points with additional control over the shape of the curves. Additionally, each band can be set to either ±6dB or ±12dB.

Each band can be independently bypassed. When an EQ band is not engaged, the audio signal still travels through the transformers and the discrete circuit but not through the RLC circuit and thus the unit can be used as a high quality unity gain line amplifier.

In addition to the individual bypass, the unit employs a true bypass relay system (using gold plated contacts) where the input signal is connected directly to the output.

The LCPQ 4040 MK2 features CARNHILL® high-level audio signal input and output transformers and custom made tapped inductors that were chosen after extensive listening tests and measurements.

The unit consists of GRAYHILL® rotary stepped switches for frequency selection, 31-detent potentiometers (hand-matched) for the Level control, WIMA® polypropylene (low tolerance) film capacitors in the RLC path, PANASONIC® audio grade electrolytic capacitors in the active circuit and NEUTRIK® connectors for the audio and power connections.

The LCPQ 4040 MK2 requires the PS 230 external power supply. A 2-meter power cable with 6-pin NEUTRIK® connectors is supplied with every EQ.
